The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Signal Corps) David C. Buscall (ASN: 0-404331), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the II Corps, in action against the enemy. On the night of ** February 1943, in the vicinity of *****, First Lieutenant Buscall displayed outstanding leadership, courage, and initiative in maintaining and operating signal installations under immediate enemy fire. During a critical period of the defense of that town, due to the calm and courageous conduct of First Lieutenant Buscall, prompt reports on the situation were furnished ****, and excellent signal facilities were available to units in the immediate vicinity. Later, despite a shortage of means of transport, he was able to evacuate all the personnel and signal equipment under his command and take with him the commercial switchboard, even though the town was surrounded. The tenacious fidelity of his task, and the calm and courageous manner in which First Lieutenant Buscall carried out his duties were a fine example and an inspiration to all those who witnessed his actions. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Buscall, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
