The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Arthur S. Burt (ASN: 18017612), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the *** Engineer Combat Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 8 February 1945, in Luxembourg. Private First Class Burt was relieved as a member of an assault boat crew, during the assault crossing of the Sauer River on 8 February 1945, after all members of his crew had been wounded. As the relief crew attempted another crossing a close mortar burst caused further casualties. Still badly shaken, Private First Class Burt immediately volunteered to return to the site under intense mortar and artillery fire, where he and his crew succeeded in making several crossing before their boat was knocked out b shrapnel. His outstanding heroisms and courageous devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
