    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Earl L. Boren (ASN: 6567243), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Infantry Regiment, II Corps, in action against the enemy. On ** February 1943, at ******, Corporal Boren distinguished himself by volunteering to cover the withdrawal of his organization. While under heavy machine gun and artillery fire, Corporal Boren displayed noteworthy skill with his 37-mm. gun. He is credited with destroying seven machine gun nests and a double-decker personnel carrier. He is also known to have scored two hits on a large enemy tank. Not only did Corporal Boren effectively cover the withdrawal of his unit, but after exhausting his ammunition he effectively spiked his 37-mm. gun by removing the firing pin. The skill, courage, and devotion to duty shown by Corporal Boren reflects great credit to his command and are deserving of great praise.
