Headquarters, XII Corps, General Orders No. 24 (March 27, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Arthur V. Bohlinger (ASN: 12064822/0-2010334), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 133d Engineer Combat Battalion, XII Corps, in action against an armed enemy on 8 February 1945, in Luxembourg. During assault crossing operations of the Sauer River near Berderf, Luxembourg, Staff Sergeant Bohlinger took platoon command after his platoon officer replaced the wounded company commander. Despite intense artillery, mortar, and small arms fire, Staff Sergeant Bohlinger left the comparative safety of the final assembly area and made several reconnaissances under direct observation. As a result of his personal information the coordination between the Engineer and Infantry elements was greatly aided. For the remainder of the day Staff Sergeant Bohlinger was at the crossing site aiding operations in every way possible. His outstanding leadership and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
