The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Edward D. Spencer (ASN: 38670243), United States Army, for heroism while serving with the 35th Infantry Division near ****, Germany, on 9 June 1945. Upon learning that a train loaded with ammunition for a twenty-four inch self-propelled gun was burning, this enlisted man volunteered to lead a patrol, and, without hesitation, dashed to the scene of the fire, where, without regard for personal safety, he assisting in bringing the fire under control. By his heroic action, Private First Class Spencer undoubtedly prevented numerous casualties among civilians in the area, as well as serious property damage.
