The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technical Sergeant Gus O. Krausse (ASN: 38090234), United States Army, for heroism while serving with the 35th Infantry Division in the vicinity of ****, Germany, on 14 March 1945. Sergeant Krausse, a platoon sergeant in the ammunition and pioneer platoon of his battalion, voluntarily entered an abandoned German ammunition dump, removed a burning nebelwerfer missile and, despite the imminent danger of explosion, extinguished the flames by covering the missile with earth, thereby eliminating a dangerous threat to the safety of several hundred soldiers quartered in the area.
