The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Frank C. Landmann (ASN: 36479503), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, on 26 September 1944 in France. While in an outpost position Private Landmann observed an enemy force, approximating a company in strength, approaching his position. He immediately ran to alert his company as to the danger and then returned to his position with orders to delay the enemy as long as possible. Placing automatic rifle fire on the advancing enemy he continued to fire in the face of overwhelming odds until the enemy advanced to within twenty yards of his position. By this time, his company was prepared for the enemy thrust and were successful in repelling it. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Private Landmann reflect the highest credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
