The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Glynn Blakeman (ASN: 35707923), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, on 24 March 1945 in Germany. Approaching a bridge across the Rhein-Herne Canal, Sergeant Blakeman rushed across it through heavy enemy machine gun fire. Reaching the hostile side, he forced the enemy to abandon its positions without detonating the previously set demolition charges. He then deliberately exposed himself to the enemy fire so that his squad, which followed him closely, could locate and neutralize the positions from which the enemy fire was coming. His action firmly established a bridgehead and made the bridge itself available to friendly troops and armored vehicles. The courage and aggressiveness displayed by Sergeant Blakeman reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States.
