The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Domitilio U. Lucero (ASN: 38351311), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action on 23 December 1944 while serving as a member of the Air Crew of a Bomber in the 391st Bombardment Group (Medium), NINTH Air Force. While he was serving as Engineer-Gunner of a B-26 Marauder Bomber dispatched to bomb a railroad viaduct at Ahrweiler, Germany, Sergeant Lucero was seriously wounded by an enemy fighter’s cannon fire. Although thrown from his position Sergeant Lucero crawled back to his post and although his armament was inoperative he gallantly continued to inform his pilot of enemy aircraft positions. Sergeant Lucero’s heroic determination and courage under heavy enemy anti-aircraft fire despite his painful injury reflect the highest credit upon himself and his organization.
