The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant Robert R. Moore, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action on 13 July 1969, during combat operations against an armed enemy of the United States, as Platoon Leader, Company A, 3d Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, while serving in the Republic of Vietnam. Second Lieutenant Moore successfully led his platoon in an engagement with enemy forces, resulting in the recovery of useful intelligence and no American casualties. Despite being seriously wounded by the detonation of a booby trap, Second Lieutenant Moore continued to direct his men until the platoon had regrouped and secured the area for evacuation. His actions greatly enhanced the unit’s ability to successfully complete the mission. Second Lieutenant Moore’s distinctive accomplishments were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 101st Airborne Division, and the United States Army.
