The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Armor) Don F. Snow, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 17 April 1969 while serving as the acting S-3, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date he received information that the squadron command post elements were being attacked by a well-concealed enemy force. Major Snow immediately flew to the area, landed and ran through the hostile fusillade to the endangered friendly vehicles. By moving among the vehicles and using hand and arm signals, he organized the armored elements for a counter attack. His skillful leadership enabled the defenders to resist the enemy attack until reinforcements arrived. Major Snow then coordinated the efforts of the friendly elements and led them in assault which resulted in twenty of the enemy killed and six captured without any friendly losses. Major Snow’s courageous and inspiring leadership and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
