The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Harry F. Ott (ASN: 36600584), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Company D, *** Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division, on 20 November 1944, in the vicinity of Metz, France. Acting leader of a machine gun platoon supporting a rifle company, Private Ott went out into the streets of Metz, carrying a heavy machine gun, and neutralized potent enemy sniper and machine gun positions which were holding up the company’s advance. This courageous action not only had a devastating effect on hostile forces, but inspired the riflemen to confidently close with and destroy the enemy. Private Ott’s great personal courage and aggressiveness reflects distinct credit on him and exemplify the highest traditions of the military service.
