The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Dennis (Dannie) Jamison, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 10 September 1969 while serving as a medic with Troop F, 2d Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date his troop had established a night defensive position when it suddenly came under an intense mortar attack followed by a ground assault by a company of North Vietnamese Army soldiers. Private Jamison began gathering his medical supplies when a rocket propelled grenade slammed into his vehicle causing him to be severely wounded. Several other troopers helped to move him to a safer area where he administered to his own wounds. He then refused to be evacuated and directed the treatment of the other wounded men for over thirty minutes until he was too weak and was evacuated. Private First Class Jamison’s actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
