The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Thomas W. Hudson (ASN: 38446393), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, in action in the **** Sector, Normandy, France, 18 July 1944. In an attack near **** Private Hudson was a gunner in a light machine gun squad of his company. Enemy artillery caused all the other members of his crew to become casualties. Private Hudson himself suffered a painful wound in the shoulder. The weapon remained serviceable, and although wounded, he moved the gun into a new position, placed it in action, and, operating alone, continued to support the attack with the light machine gun until he collapsed from loss of blood from his wounds. The gallantry in action, zealous devotion to duty, and strong determination for success of his troops, as manifested by Private Hudson, reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
