Headquarters, 35th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 21 (August 19, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Dolan W. Boggs (ASN: 20723614), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 3d Battalion, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, in action near ****, Normandy, France, on 18 July 1944. Sergeant Boggs, communications sergeant of his platoon, volunteered to aid in covering the platoon’s advance. From a position in a hedgerow, he fired a Browning Automatic Rifle in support of the platoon’s advance, although intense enemy machine gun fire was directed at his position, and numerous hand grenades were thrown at him. After being wounded my machine gun fire, he continued to fire at the enemy until additional wounds forced him out of action. The intrepid courage of Sergeant Boggs, his utter disregard for personal safety, and his devotion to duty, evidenced by making the mission of his platoon and support of his comrades his primary concern, was immeasurably responsible for the successful advance of his company, and reflects the highest credit upon the military service.
