Headquarters, 35th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 22 (August 20, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Edward G. Abraham (ASN: 35529013), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, in action in the vicinity of ****, Normandy, France, on 30 July 1944. When his platoon was pinned down by fire from an enemy machine gun to the front, Private Abraham, a rifleman, leaped across the hedgerow, and although wounded, crawled to the enemy machine gun and destroyed the position with a hand grenade. The intrepid courage of Private Abraham, his tenacity of purpose, and utter disregard for personal safety, enabled his platoon to successfully continue its advance, reflects high credit upon his character as a soldier, and is in accord with the highest traditions of the military service.
