The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Platoon Sergeant Eugene Paradiso (Paradisco), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 17 April 1969 while serving as a platoon sergeant with Troop G, 2d Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date Sergeant Paradiso was providing protection for a supply convoy when it suddenly came under an intense barrage of small arms, automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenade fire from an estimated company of North Vietnamese Army soldiers. Sergeant Paradiso immediately returned fire with all his organic weapons and remained between the enemy and the convoy, repulsing each new attempt by the hostile force to delay the convoy. After the convoy had passed through the danger zone, Sergeant Paradiso returned to the area to help the vehicles which were damaged by anti-tank grenades. He positioned himself to provide protection for the disabled vehicles and continued to engage the enemy until reinforcements arrived to help relieve him. Platoon sergeant Paradiso’s actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
