The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major William John Anderson (AFSN: FR-3022614), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight on 28 August 1968. On that date, Major Anderson directed tactical air in support of a friendly unit attempting to re-take one of the Ha Thanh Special Forces Camp’s fallen outposts. The superior skill displayed by Major Anderson completely eliminated the aggressor force and permitted the friendly unit to re-take the fallen outpost and re-establish their defensive positions. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Anderson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
