The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Charles D. Bullock (ASN: US-53006047), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 6 October 1951 in the vicinity of Kongdong, Korea. On this date, during an attack on vital enemy positions, Company A met heavy resistance from commanding hostile emplacements, resulting in numerous friendly casualties. Sergeant Bullock, a squad leader, repeatedly exposed himself to the heavy volume of hostile fire to assist the wounded men. Sighting a wounded comrade vainly trying to crawl to safety, he went to his aid, laying down covering fire which enabled him to reach safety. Continuing with his constant fire, Sergeant Bullock greatly aided the medical aidmen in evacuating the wounded men to positions of safety. His actions were an inspiration to the men of his unit and were instrumental in saving the lives of many of his comrades. The gallantry in action and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Bullock on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
