The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Alvin Anthony Boxler (ASN: 0-2263050), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 September 1951 in the vicinity of Pia-ri, Korea. On this date Lieutenant Boxler’s platoon launched an attack on a strategic hill defended by a numerically superior enemy force. Lieutenant Boxler led his platoon to the objective through the intense hostile fire. Several times their advance was halted and they were pinned down, but under Lieutenant Boxler’s spirited leadership, the platoon continued their attack. When finally forced to withdraw, Lieutenant Boxler ordered his men to safety while he remained to evacuate the wounded and dead. During this courageous action, Lieutenant Boxler was fatally wounded by enemy machine gun fire. The gallantry in action and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Boxler reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
