The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Robert M. Blunk (ASN: US-52015157), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date during an attack on vital enemy positions, Company A was halted by a heavy concentration of hostile small arms fire, and friendly forces suffered numerous casualties. When the concentrated enemy fire prevented the medical aidmen from assisting the wounded, Private Blunk, unhesitatingly crossed the fire-swept area and upon reaching the fallen men he began to evacuate them. He repeatedly crossed the hazardous terrain, carrying the wounded men until all of them were safely evacuated to positions of safety. His outstanding devotion to duty was an inspiration to his comrades and undoubtedly saved many of their lives. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Blunk on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
