Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 12 (January 9, 1952), Amended by General Orders No. 41 (January 24, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Floyd Thomas Beach (ASN: RA-19415256), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 7 October 1951 in the vicinity of Tut-a-yon, Korea. On this date Company A was preparing to move to a new sector of defense. While descending the hill from their old positions, one of the officers leading a squad entered a mine field and was seriously wounded when he stepped on a mine. Private Beach, realizing the seriousness of the situation and fully aware of the risk involved, voluntarily maneuvered his way into the mine field. While advancing toward the wounded officer he stepped on a mine and was fatally wounded. Although unsuccessful in his attempt, the great courage and intrepidity demonstrated by Private Beach in risking his life to save his leader were an inspiration to all who observed him. The gallantry in action and self-sacrificing spirit displayed by Private Beach reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
