Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 582 (October 8, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Kenneth C. Brubaker (ASN: US-56140229), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 31 August 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date Private Brubaker’s platoon had the mission of leading the company in the attack against an enemy-held hill. As the unit left the line of departure, it was suddenly subjected to intense enemy machine gun and automatic weapons fire from well-entrenched enemy forces. Private Brubaker, with utter disregard for his own safety, crawled forward and assaulted the enemy position with his rifle. He succeeded in destroying several enemy automatic rifles and inflicted numerous casualties upon the enemy before he was fatally wounded by enemy fire. Private Brubaker’s self-sacrificing actions enabled his unit to continue with its mission. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Brubaker reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
