Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 67 (March 26, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Kenneth L. Brown (ASN: ER-17248495), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 7 January 1951 in the vicinity of Wonju, Korea. On that date his company was warding off fierce assaults upon its position by numerically superior enemy forces and was subjected to intense hostile heavy weapons fire. When enemy fire destroyed the company’s wire lines, Corporal Brown, who was in charge of radio and wire communications, unhesitatingly crawled out of his position of cover in order to reach a position which would favor radio reception. While so doing he was wounded and his radio was destroyed. Thus deprived of the last mechanical means of communication, Corporal Brown, despite his painful wound, volunteered to lead a patrol to the battalion command post to secure another radio. En route he suffered a second wound which later proved fatal. Before succumbing to his wounds, he dauntlessly and with loyal devotion to duty and to his comrades, led the patrol on until they had reached the battalion and had given warning of the situation, causing immediate reinforcement to be rushed to the beleaguered company. The gallantry displayed by Corporal Brown reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
