Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 101 (May 9, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Jack P. Brown (ASN: RA-6255003), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 14 February 1951 in the vicinity of Chipyong-ni, Korea. Company K was in defensive position on a hill and had been under heavy attack the previous night. A reconnaissance patrol discovered that the enemy had re-grouped their forces and were awaiting darkness to launch another assault. The platoon in which Corporal Brown was a squad leader maneuvered to high ground directly above the hostile force, which was of approximate company strength. When the order to attack was given, Corporal Brown charged forward into the point blank enemy fire at the head of his squad. Although he was wounded in three places by hand grenade fragments, he intrepidly continued his charge and killed nine of the enemy. His heroic action was instrumental in driving the enemy into the open where, taken under automatic weapons fire from the remainder of the company, a large number were killed and demoralized remnants retreated in a complete rout. The gallantry displayed by Corporal Brown reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
