The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Rosco E. Brewer (ASN: RA-6719222), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Hangye, Korea. On that date Private Brewer was a member of a 75-mm. recoilless rifle platoon which had the mission to break a roadblock. That morning the platoon was attacked by a numerically superior enemy force when Private Brewer observed the enemy trying to set up a machine gun. In order to prevent the enemy from doing so, he voluntarily left his concealed position, calmly mounted his recoilless rifle in an open position, and delivered such accurate fire that the enemy was unable to place his gun into action, while permitting the platoon to move to more favorable firing positions. Private Brewer thus continued to fire his weapon until he was certain the platoon had withdrawn to its new positions. The gallantry displayed by Private Brewer reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
