Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 236 (1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Victor M. Beibuyck (ASN: ER-36474991), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 17 May 1951, in the vicinity of Kunmul-gol, Korea. On that date Sergeant Beibuyck’s platoon had the mission of securing a high hill. As the platoon advanced up the slope, it suddenly came under intense small arms and automatic weapons fire from the numerically superior enemy force, inflicting heavy casualties upon the platoon. Sergeant Beibuyck, hearing a call for help, fearlessly exposed himself to the intense enemy fire and went to the aid of a wounded comrade. He quickly administered first aid and proceeded to carry the wounded to the rear when he suddenly came upon an enemy throwing a grenade at them. He immediately dropped to the ground with the wounded soldier and after the grenade had exploded, leaped to his feet and killed the opponent with a well aimed rifle shot. His courageous action was responsible for the evacuation of the wounded and saving his life. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Beibuyck reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
