The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class [then Sergeant] Donald L. Beebe (ASN: RA-19335589), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 19 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. While his company was assaulting strongly-entrenched enemy positions it was subjected to such intense hostile fire that the success of the attack was jeopardized. Sergeant Beebe immediately and fearlessly advanced toward the enemy, hurled hand grenades into their foxholes, inflicting heavy casualties upon them. During this single-handed assault he captured five prisoners and contributed greatly to the success of his company in seizing its objective. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Beebe reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
