The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Clarence L. Beacham (ASN: 0-1341495), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 30 November 1950 in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. On that date he was riding in a convoy composed of the command group of the Division which was attempting to break through an enemy roadblock that was approximately five miles in depth. The convoy was halted by intense enemy fire, which made further progress impossible. Lieutenant Beacham immediately assembled his platoon and led it in an attack against an enemy machine gun position located on high ground to the left of the road. He quickly supervised the care of his wounded and then led the rest of the platoon in an attack against the enemy on the right side of the road. During this action he was wounded by enemy fire but ignored his wound and continued to lead his platoon. His aggressiveness and inspiring leadership materially aided the convoy in penetrating the roadblock and undoubtedly saved many lives. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Beacham reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
