The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Larence H. Barrow (ASN: RA-14266105), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 25 May 1951, in the vicinity of Ogumal, Korea. Private Barrow was an assistant squad leader of the first platoon when his organization moved out from its front line positions with the assigned mission of erecting a pontoon bridge across a river in enemy-occupied territory. As the convoy of troops and heavy equipment moved up the road, it was ambushed by a large, well-concealed enemy force. The first platoon was ordered to secure a prominent hill. Private Barrow distinguished himself in the attack by personally placing accurate rifle fire upon the enemy and by accounting for six enemy dead. He was wounded when he moved from his position to organize his squad for the final assault, but although in intense pain, he went to the aid of another wounded soldier and carried him to an abandoned vehicle located at the base of the hill. Taking note of the precarious situation, he placed two additional wounded men on the vehicle. Unable to find a driver, Private Barrow himself drove to the aid station, and although he expressed a desire to rejoin the fight, was persuaded to remain for medical care. The gallantry displayed by Private Barrow reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
