The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Sergeant Edgar D. Lynch (ASN: RA-6266812), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with while serving with the 25th Quartermaster Company, 25th Infantry Division. On 5 January 1951, near Suwon, Korea, the gasoline-soaked clothing of an allied soldier caught fire; terrified, he began running, causing the flames to increase in intensity. Heedless of the hazards involved, Sergeant Lynch overtook the soldier and forced him to the ground. Although burned during the struggle, he succeeded in smothering the flames with his field coat. Sergeant Lynch’s timely and courageous actions prevented possible serous injuries and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
