Headquarters, II Field Force Vietnam, General Orders No. 1575 (November 2, 1968)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Odis V. Glover (ASN: RA-28240165), United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 28 March 1968, while serving as a Platoon Sergeant with Troop K, 3d Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date, Sergeant Glover’s platoon was participating in a reconnaissance in force mission when the lead elements were suddenly engaged by an estimated battalion of well armed Viet Cong. Reacting immediately, Sergeant Glover led his platoon into the center of the attack. As his vehicle was closing on the bunker complex, it was struck by an enemy rocket, knocking him from the vehicle and wounding him in the arm, back and both legs. Ignoring his painful injuries, Sergeant Glover remounted his disabled vehicle, assuming a fully exposed position in the commander’s cupola, and directed an intense barrage of fire upon the hostile forces. Each time the Viet Cong attempted to overrun the stricken assault vehicle, Sergeant Glover’s highly accurate fire scattered them. Moving his tank to his unit’s vulnerable left flank without regard for his own safety, he closed to within thirty meters of the attacking enemy and fearlessly exposed himself to a hail of bullets in order to direct his fire into the enemy’s ranks. He continually refused medical attention until he was sure that all other soldiers had been treated or evacuated and only then did he allow his wounds to be treated. Sergeant First Class Glover’s unwavering devotion to duty and personal bravery were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
