The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant First Class Robert Foreman, Jr., United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 26 March 1970, while serving as a Platoon Sergeant with Troop A, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date, Sergeant Foreman’s unit was acting as a reactionary force to an infantry company. Upon entering the contact area the troop received intense recoilless rifle, rocket-propelled grenade, small arms and automatic weapons fire from two companies of North Vietnamese soldiers. Sergeant Foreman received an intense amount of fire but remained to continue his assault of the bunkers. He repeatedly attacked the entrenched insurgents resulting in the destruction of three enemy bunkers and numerous North Vietnamese casualties. Sergeant First Class Foreman’s actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
