The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Michael B. Nosera, United States Army, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force on 12 August 1969, while serving as a machine gunner with Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2d Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in the Republic of Vietnam. On this date, Private Nosera was part of a liaison team located at a fire support base when the area suddenly came under an intense ground attack from an estimated North Vietnamese battalion. As the enemy swarmed across the support base, Private Nosera alternated between machine guns, laying down effective suppressive fire. Even though the enemy was surrounding two beleaguered vehicles, he remained calm as he repelled several attempts to overrun the vehicles. When the two vehicles began withdrawing, he continued to stop the enemy with accurate fire. Private First Class Nosera’s courage, devotion to duty and complete disregard for his personal safety were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
