The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) George T. Walters (ASN: 0-1296615), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 11th Airborne Division on Leyte, Philippine Islands, on 14 December 1944. During an attack against the enemy, the advance of the company which Captain Walters commanded was held up by heavy enemy fire. Moving forward over fire-swept terrain, this intrepid officer personally led his company in a determined assault against the enemy positions. In the performance of this heroic deed, Captain Walters was killed by enemy fire. His great courage, daring initiative, and zealous devotion to duty set an inspiring example for his unit and exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States.
