The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Roscoe Kelly (ASN: 6928255), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 188th Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division, on Leyte, Philippine Islands on 26 December 1944. During an attack against the enemy, the advance of the platoon of which Technical Sergeant Kelly was a member was held up by intense hostile fire. Technical Sergeant Kelly immediately moved forward to an exposed position and directed the deployment of the platoon for an attack against the enemy positions. While leading his platoon in the daring attack up a fire-swept hill, Technical Sergeant Kelly was killed. His great courage and zealous devotion to duty set an inspiring example for his unit and exemplify the highest traditions of the military service.
