The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Bart Scimone (ASN: 32617359), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Battery B, *** Field Artillery Battalion, 95th Infantry Division, on 19 November 1944, in the vicinity of Metz, France. During operations in the Metz area, telephone communications between Company G and the Battalion Command Post were cut out by enemy shell fire. No infantrymen were present at the Battalion Command Post to repair the line, and in spite of heavy enemy small arms and mortar fire, Private First Class Scimone volunteered to go out and repair the line, a task which he accomplished, and returned safely. Inasmuch as Private First Class Scimone’s own artillery communications were in working order he might have remained in the comparative safety of the Battalion Command Post, but realizing the importance of the communications problem he did not hesitate to act in spite of the danger involved. The courage, coolness and extreme devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Scimone reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
