Headquarters, 95th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 45 (December 14, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Floyd A. Warren (ASN: 38544994), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Battery A, *** Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, 95th Infantry Division, on 4 December 1944, in the vicinity of Saarlautern, Germany. When a heavy concentration of hostile artillery fire fell on his M-051 machine gun position, with shrapnel from it punching holes in an ammunition chest close to his head, Private Warren, risking his life, determined to remain at his post. A moment later German machine gun fire harassed the position, menacing the position’s potentiality of anti-aircraft defense for a bridge across the Saar River. But Private Warren, exposing himself to the enemy fire, discharged his own weapon accurately, destroying the German gun. Private Warren’s conspicuous gallantry on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
