The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Warrant Officer, Junior Grade Marvin A. Tuck (ASN: W-2108741), United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, *** Engineer Battalion, 95th Infantry Division, on 11 and 12 November 1944, in the vicinity of Uckange, France. When the velocity of the current, as well as intense shelling from German artillery, seemed to preclude ferrying of supplies across the Moselle River to troops on the east bank, Warrant Officer, Junior Grade, Tuck volunteered to attempt the dangerous, vital mission himself. In a motorboat he crossed the flooded river, under enemy fire, carrying fresh troops as well as supplies to the bridgehead on the opposite side, and evacuating the wounded on the return trip. Warrant Officer, Junior Grade, Tuck made this perilous trip many times and in so doing aided materially in the successful establishment and maintenance of the Uckange Bridgehead. Warrant Officer, Junior Grade, Tuck’s heroic accomplishment reflects great credit upon him and in in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
