(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) James Richard Lynch, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, in action against the enemy in France, in February 1945. Second Lieutenant Lynch made a combat jump against German forces in the Alsace area of France, during which he was severely wounded by a land mine. In spite of these wounds, he led his forces against the enemy and succeeded in capturing a number of German prisoners. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Lynch, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
