The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Allen T. Emery (ASN: 19081434), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 101st Airborne Division. On 11 June 1944, during an attack by his organization on Curenten, France, from the direction of Point Du Dauvo, Private Emery displayed great courage in continuing to man 81-millimeter and 60-millimeter mortars in the face of heavy enemy fire from 88-millimeter guns, 60-millimeter mortars, and accurate enemy sniper fire. Heavy enemy resistance pinned down the assault companies at the bridge over Le Madeleine River and a fierce battle ensured. He remained at his post, firing all available 81-millimeter and 60-millimeter mortar ammunition until the threat of enemy counterattack was past. His continuance at his post, though several men were wounded beside him by enemy sniper fire, served as a gallant example of heroism for his comrades and greatly aided in repulsing the enemy counterattacks. His conduct was in accord with the military traditions of the United States.
