By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Robert F. Tillotson (ASN: 549367), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the Medical Detachment, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, from 7 to 9 August 1918, during the engagement with the enemy, Sergeant Tillotson went forward with the first troops and established an Aid Station in the front line. During the attack he carried the wounded from the advanced position into the dressing station and game them medical attention. Sergeant Tillotson, time after time without a thought of his own personal danger, passed through a heavy barrage of artillery and machine gun fire carrying his wounded comrades to a place of safety. When this Battalion was relieved he refused to leave and remained with the wounded until they were all evacuated.
