Spade (ASN: 1540444), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant First Class Spade distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with 148th Ambulance Company, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Leade, Belgium, 1 November 1918. After being wounded, he persisted in caring for the wounded under shell fire, until ordered to the rear.
