Scott (ASN: 548878), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Scott distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Mezy, France, 15 July 1918, while directing the movements of a trench mortar section during the enemy attack.

While serving with Headquarters Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Sergeant Ross was mentioned by Captain Jesse Woolridge, now Major, for the conspicuous bravery, coolness, and leadership which he displayed on 15 July 1918. When on the morning he with one section of the Stokes Mortar Platoon found himself surrounded by the Germans, he conducted his section safely back to our lines and attached himself to the command of Captain Wooldridge and aided in the defense of the sector under difficult circumstances.
