Schacht (ASN: 156550), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Walter Schacht distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 2d Engineers, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Le Thiolet, France, 6 – 7 June 1918, in voluntarily advancing under heavy fire in order to ascertain the location of enemy machine gun nests.
