Sankey (ASN: 1953538), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private First Class Sankey distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Battery D, 323d Field Artillery, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Brabant, France, 21 October 1918, in extinguishing a fire in an ammunition dump under heavy shell fire.
