By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Martin W. Rediker (ASN: 2113392), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery C, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Rediker displayed heroism and devotion to duty near Montfaucon, France, on 6 – 7 October 1918. Private Rediker was a litter bearer and helped evacuate four wounded men from the battery position after the Germans had adjusted and were firing on the battery for destruction. Private Rediker showed absolute disregard for personal safety, applying first aid while shells were bursting all around him and other men had taken protection in the trail trenches.
