The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Private John J. Quinn (ASN: 1783567), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, 314th Infantry, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Montfaucon, France, 29 September 1918. Sergeant Quinn remained at a first aid station, while being shelled by German artillery, performing his duty under continual artillery fire until all patients had been given first aid and evacuated.
