Ernest Garlington graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1876. He retired as a U.S. Army Brigadier General. His son Creswell Garlington (USMA 1910) earned the DSC in World War I, and his grandson by the same name earned a posthumous DSC in World War II.
