No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant Allen Cook (ASN: 2395262), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Cook distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action south of Cunel, France, 6 October 1918, while in command of his platoon, which captured three enemy machine guns.

While serving with Company F, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, during the Meuse-Argonne offensive on 6 October 1918, south of Cunel, France, after his platoon leader was wounded, Sergeant Cook took command of his platoon and exercising initiative, resourcefulness and splendid leadership, succeeded in spite of intense artillery and machine gun fire in capturing three enemy machine guns.
